Winter holidays should be defined by roaring fires, stunning meals and warm hospitality – and at Oaklands Country Manor, just three hours from both Durban and Johannesburg, you’ll find an abundance of each.
Each of the 17 suites is beyond stylish and offers beautiful views – polo fields in the foreground, against the backdrop of the majestic Central Drakensberg. Oaklands boasts world-class polo facilities and has hosted international matches. However, even the most horse-shy guest is catered for, with a gentle plod on the trained resident horses. You can also enjoy fishing, hiking, tennis, mountain biking, bird-watching and paddling – all in a child-friendly environment.
That’s if you make it outside… A family-run establishment, Oaklands’ meals are as tasty as they’re beautiful, and fires seem to illuminate and warm every room. Sisters Caroline, Kathy and Annie, as well as their brother Simon, share hosting, cooking and riding duties and ensure every guest is looked after.
Kathy’s approach in the kitchen is marked by respect for local ingredients and you’ll battle to choose from the various, delicious daily offerings.
Deliciously decadent meals are on offer at Oaklands, a formidable wine list, a quirky bar and a veritable flotilla of friendly Great Danes complete the experience.
