The Registration of South Africans Abroad is a registry managed by the Department of Internal Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) and is aimed at ensuring South Africans travelling abroad are able to receive the necessary assistance in cases of disaster, emergency or other crises.
Travellers living, working or simply travelling abroad are able to sign up to the registry online, manage their travel information or deregister as solo, family or group travellers. As a service provided by the Dirco, registration is free.
Through the registry, consular services, in close collaboration with the Consular Sections of South African Representatives in 125 countries, have been provided to assist South Africans abroad who have experienced:
- Natural/man-made disasters
- Civil unrest
Representatives will also assist in the case of deaths or when travellers need to be contacted in an emergency. For a detailed list of the consular services available, visit Dirco.
