Roll up chocolate aficionados – there’s a not-to-be-missed gourmet festival on the go this weekend to satisfy even the most dedicated chocaholic. The Winelands Chocolate Festival is bringing together chocolate lovers, master artisans, pastry chefs, ice-cream makers and bakers at Lourensford Wine Estate, in the Helderberg area of the Western Cape, from 25 to 26 July 2015.
Events include The Chocolate Theatre (R50 a ticket), a marquee next to the main Chocolate Festival venue, where demonstrations by renowned chocolatiers (“big names” in the business) will range from jaw-dropping tiered gateaux to the silkiest ice-cream and melting fondants. Why not attend the Lindt Afternoon Tea for a spot of indulgence? Or sign up for a short course and learn how to pair chocolate with assorted alcoholic beverages and liqueurs or make the perfect bonbon or classic chocolate cake for your next dinner party. Indulge in the Art of Cupcake Making or the Swiss Brownie Affair. For those who take their chocs a bit more seriously than the average novice, fantastic master classes are also on offer.
While the festival is geared more towards adults, children are included in some activities, including a fancy dress competition on Sunday 26th – all choc superheroes and cocoa fairies welcome.
Daily fashions shows, surprise music performances and chocolate-inspired art and photography all celebrate the magic and seduction that is chocolate when it is presented as high art and looking its best against a gorgeous winelands backdrop.
