Following in the footsteps of Rwanda, which on 1 January 2017 began to issue visas on arrival to African travellers on arrival, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that the nation would also follow suite by allowing visa-free travel for travellers from the continent.
According to EWN, the announcement was made in Addis Ababa during a state banquet honouring Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation officially announced that South Africans who wish to travel to Russia for leisure proposes would no longer be required to apply for a visa from the 1st of April, 2017. This followed discussions between the Department of Home Affairs and Russia that commenced last year.
Prior to this, the process of applying for a visa required that a request for an invitation be sent in Russian, which the traveller would need to present in person at the Russian embassy when applying for one.

South Africa has access to 90 countries, according the 2017 edition of the Passport Index released by Arton Capital, the global financial advisory firm specializing in residence and citizenship investor programs around the world. The index looked at 199 passports from around the world, and outlines and ranks the countries which visitors may enter without a visa.
