It’s almost Africa Day (25 May) and that means it’s nearly time for the Africa Day Concert, which takes place in Newtown on 28 May. The focus of Africa Day* is to celebrate diversity through unity and what better way to express this sentiment than with music from across the continent.

As I descend the rugged Bandiagara Escarpment in Mali, truth and reality seem hopelessly mismatched. The Dogon village I have arrived in clings precariously to the rock face of the arid escarpment, deep in the Sahel.
