Cookbook Fair reports that the prestigious awards were founded in 1995 and honour the best print or digital food and wine books, as well as food TV.
According to Sowetan Live, after accepting the award, Mtongana said: “I am absolutely honoured to receive this prestigious global recognition‚ not only for me but for my country, South Africa, and my continent, Africa,” she said.
“Young Africans have so much to contribute to the global community. It’s my goal to represent and showcase the continent’s drive‚ innovation and skill on the international stage. Participating in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards is just one way in which to do that.”
My Table made history in 2016 as the best selling cookbook ever to be stocked by Woolworths SA. Furthermore, her show Siba’s Table airs in more than 130 countries.
Born in Mdantsane Eastern Cape, Mtongana is the first South African to have her own show on American TV. It is watched in more than 60 million homes in the USA alone.
In 2015, she launched The Siba Co, a multi-disciplinary business that focuses on everything food-related. Though Mtongana herself is the company’s first brand project, she plans to grow the business through food and homeware products, restaurants, a cooking academy and TV productions.
