Travel giant Airbnb is on its way to becoming a holistic travel experience platform. It has now introduced the capability for travellers to share short videos known as travel stories on the Airbnb app.

The stories – which have to be a minimum of 10 seconds long and can be taken through the app by selecting the on-app “Add video” function and stitched together – will encompass the traveller’s location, captions, the option to specific if its a work, leisure, family trip and the option to add tips on exploring the destination – and not just the rental unit – for future travellers.

According to Business Report,” the new travel stories feature fits within Airbnb’s outlook of trying to become a forum that is more socially driven”. While the online hospitality service follows in the social media footsteps of the likes of Snapchat and Instagram in introducing a story feature, the move is said to be geared toward marketing the brand’s evolution into providing travel services, and will therefore also be used to market its Experiences offering, which was launched in 2016.

The app has provided a list of tips through a FAQ section to make sharing the stories easy for travellers, while Stories from the Airbnb Community, accompanied by short user profiles and video write-ups, are already available through a dedicated section on the platform.
