There is much controversy around the up and coming ‘Eco-Mobility’ Festival that will be taking place in the Sandton CBD (Johannesburg) during the month of October. There is a major problem with congestion on the roads and the City of Johannesburg have decided to have a local Eco-Mobility Festival in order to encourage business people, business owners and visitors to Sandton to go on foot, by bike or use public transport – but leave their cars at home.

Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau, talks about the event in this exclusive clip for Sawubona that was shot at the launch of the Eco-Mobility Festival.

He explains the campaign, ‘It’s all about creating awareness and consciousness around alternative modes of transportation; reducing our reliance on private cars and getting people to ride bicycles, getting people to  access their city through walking but also being able to access public transport as a means of traversing the different parts of the city.’

He says its all about reducing congestion in places like Sandton, that has lead to a gridlock on the urban hub…
