With the aim of enhancing the travel experience, OR Tambo International Airport is undergoing massive refurbishments to its Terminal A Retail Duty-Free Mall.
Included in the revamp will be an upgrade of the ablution facilities, lighting improvements and replacing ceiling tiles and air conditioning units, among others.
“Our Retail Duty-Free Mall was opened in 2001 and has over the years been subjected to normal routine maintenance and minor refurbishments. We are planning to undertake this major refurbishment on the least busy day of the week on Saturday, 13 February 2016 and aim to have all contractors removed from site before the Easter peak season starts,” said OR Tambo GM Bongiwe Pityi.
Passengers checking in for international flights will continue to go through processes at Terminal A while the refurbishments take place. Security and emigration handling processes will occur in the Central Terminal Building, which is situated opposite the KFC and the escalators going to and from the Gautrain station.
“We have an appreciation of the fact that it is never an easy task to undertake construction in a live environment. To this end, we appeal to our passengers, stakeholders and business partners to be patient with operational challenges that may be experienced during this period. Passenger satisfaction and ease of travel through our facilities remains our number one priority,” said Pityi.
Passengers are encouraged to arrive three hours before international flights to ensure ample time to check in and go through security. Customer care agents will be ready to assist at information desks and can also be reached on +27 (0)11 921 6262 should passengers have queries before their flight.
