Sometimes ladies just need a mini-break from their daily routine and to hang out with the girls. The good news is that Cape Town and its surrounding areas offer magical day trips that won’t break budgets. Cape Comoot, a newly launched transport service offers one-way trips from Greenmarket Square to Cape Point or Franschhoek for R99. The return trip also costs R99.
Co-founder of Cape Comoot Yolandie Le Grange says: “Reasonably priced and safe access to places like Cape Point and Franschhoek is lacking. With tourism being seen as the next mining boom for South Africa, it is important that we keep this sector afloat with as much local and international support as possible.”
Any great “ladycation” should start with a stylish breakfast. Clarke’s Dining Room is a hip local hangout, which offers scrumptious, yet affordable food from 8am-9am. Once you and your gals are ready to go, it’s a short walk to Greenmarket Square, where the Cape Comoot umbrellas can be easily spotted.
Your Instagram happy place
Cape Point, a South African national park, has utterly breathtaking views and makes for the perfect backdrop for Instagram snaps. The entrance fee is R135.
Hiking or shopping?
Cape Point has dozens of beautiful day walks and three shops worth exploring; Cape Point Logo Shop, Cape Point Parks Shop and the Lighthouse Five. These not only offer great souvenirs, but stylish jewellery and fashion items too.
Al fresco picnic or restaurant with a view?
Cape Point really leaves visitors spoilt for choice. If the ladies want to picnic al fresco in the fresh breeze, or if sipping chilled wine with your sushi is your vibe, you will find it here – just take care and make sure you pick a safe picnic spot, as there are baboons in the area. There is a takeaway that serves yummy sarmies or pizzas, as well as the Two Oceans Restaurant.
It’s tram time!
The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on, hop-off tour is one of the best ways to discover all there is about the wine of the area. A mix of tram and tram-buses takes you on a loop of stops, allowing you and your ladies freedom of choice. Each tram line is colour-coded and ticket prices vary, so check out the website for more details.
Downtown Franschhoek offers a smorgasbord of restaurants, so check them out online to pick your favourite. There are also gourmet food tours and wine tastings downtown and if you prefer browsing, don’t miss the Saturday market in the park.
Right, let’s get down to it, gals! If you are one of those ladies who can’t stand the thought of consuming many empty calories, fret not! Franschhoek is a picturesque town and a haven for cyclists. Simply rent a bike and get a map of recommended wineries at the bike rental shop situated on the same side as the tram ticket office.
