Paradise Refurbished

Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort & Spa - aerial (Custom) 2

You can stare for days at the tranquil Indian Ocean views at Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort –which was awarded the 2015 World Travel Award for Africa’s Leading Private Island Resort – situated in the Quirimbas Archipelago, a group of 20 islands off the northern coast of Mozambique. While the view remains constant, the 12-villa resort itself has undergone a four-month-long refurbishment and recently held its soft reopening.

Area General Manager, Roberto Simone, says: “Visitors returning to the island can look forward to a memorable island experience, with the emphasis on tailor-made indulgences and personalised service in an environment true to the vibrancy of the Mozambican culture and its people.”

Stylish simplicity

The renovation included new furnishings and upgrades to the villas and guest areas, creating a clean and contemporary yet intimate ambience.

Some of the new additions include larger splash pools with aqua mosaic finishes for each of the resort’s Beach Pool Villas, plus a “champagne step”, allowing guests to enjoy the views from the privacy of their very own pool, while sipping on a glass of chilled bubbly. New outdoor furnishings also decorate the decks.

The main building is now a lighter and brighter space, with sliding and stacking glass windows and doors adding to the open airy feel.

Going green

In terms of an environmentally friendly source of energy, a 400 kWp Solar PV plant is being installed with a solar charger feeding a battery bank that can store up to 1 500 kWh of energy. This project is expected to be completed in February 2016, allowing the resort to be powered entirely by solar energy and reducing pollution to almost zero. It also promises to keep noise levels low and create a positive impact on the environment.

New bespoke experiences

  • Learn to sail a traditional dhow and navigate the waters surrounding the island with the unique “Dare to Dhow Discovery”.
  • Unwind between the sun and sea with an idyllic beach picnic by a lighthouse built in the 1930s.
  • Relax with an indigenous pampering treatment at Anantara Spa with a soft cloth compress filled with sand from Medjumbe’s beaches to ease tension in the body.
