Gourmet travellers will be well acquainted with Greenhouse at The Cellars-Hohenort, the Constantia winelands restaurant on the outskirts of Cape Town where acclaimed Chef Peter Tempelhoff whips up world-class fine dining cuisine.
Greenhouse is regularly fêted as one of the finest restaurants in South Africa, so it’s fitting that this acclaimed destination recently enjoyed a decor revamp to match the look-and-feel of the surrounds with what’s on the plate. (Greenhouse featured very well in this year’s 2015 EAT OUT MERCEDES-BENZ RESTAURANT AWARDS taking the Boschendal Style Award as well as fourth place on the esteemed list of Top 10 Restaurants in South Africa).
“We have created a clean, sophisticated, and modern interior,” explains Dawn Dickerson of consultancy Hot Cocoa Interiors & Design, which conceptualised the new look. Unadorned tables and a minimalist approach allows the food to take centre stage, delicately balanced by sleek leather furniture and works by local artists.
It’s a fitting reflection of the cuisine on offer, with Tempelhoff offering a seasonal tasting menu alongside his remarkable African Origins menu that gives local heritage ingredients and inspiration a decidedly modern expression. It’s a multi-sensory journey through both flavour and texture, using acclaimed local producers. For a true taste of South Africa, in a gorgeous new space, be sure to call ahead for a table at Greenhouse.
