Luke is here to stay!



Delicious dining courtesy uber-chef Luke Dale-Roberts is going to be a regular option for Jozi restaurant-goers from May 2016.

Dale-Roberts is the darling of the Cape Town food scene with diners having to book months in advance to get into his award-winning restaurant, The Test Kitchen. So, it was with great glee that diners in Johannesburg got to experience his magic on their home turf from late January. His menu has been very well-received in the city and it’s clear that locals can’t get enough.

“Obviously the expectations have been very high with the pop-up in Johannesburg,” says Dale-Roberts. “But, to be honest, I’ve absolutely loved the energy here. The guests are excited to be here, they’re chatting to people at other tables. It’s a space that’s fun, filled with energy and shared excitement.”

The latest news is that his fabulously popular pop-up restaurant at the Saxon Hotel, Villas & Spa will become a permanent feature later this year.

George Cohen, Saxon Hotel, Villas & Spa Managing Director, says he is a long-time admirer of Luke Dale-Roberts’ innovative cuisine and is thrilled that the pop-up concept has lead to something more permanent. “What we’ve tried to achieve with this collaboration, and the overall Saxon dining offering, is to bring newly inspired culinary concepts to Johannesburg. With the success of the current pop-up restaurant, the decision to create a permanent dining space with Luke Dale-Roberts continues the Saxon philosophy of offering unique guest experiences.”

Dale-Roberts and his team at the Saxon, headed up by the talented Candice Philip, are in the throes of planning the autumn menu, inspired by the best of local produce. The current location for the pop-up restaurant will close at the end of this month for an extensive redesign and refurbishment and will officially open in May.

Luke Dale-Roberts at the Saxon will open on 5 May for dinner (Tuesdays to Saturdays). Bookings are essential. The seven-course tasting menu is currently priced at R1 330 for seven courses (which includes two appetisers) or R2 100 with wine or tea pairing. Dinner is served Tuesday to Saturday.
