Houghton has always been one of South Africa’s most sought-after addresses with many influential people calling it home. The late former South African President Nelson Mandela was a resident in this affluent area and there’s no doubt that its reputation is intact as one of Jozi’s most upmarket suburbs.
The latest addition to the this prime real estate is the recently unveiled Houghton Hotel, which is being punted as a premier location for business travellers to the city. It’s the most recent addition to the residential development on the Jack Nicklaus signature golf course that stretches on for 168 acres along Houghton’s 2nd avenue. The property will have it all in terms of luxury facility, including a health and fitness club, spa and indoor and outdoor pools. The hotel is all about luxury and quality, and the cascading terraced landscape promises to be a showstopper.
A contemporary delicatessen (where residents of The Houghton’s apartments will be able to source fresh produce) caters to food lovers who can further indulge in a 90-seater fine dining restaurant with three private dining rooms. The menu has been developed with expertise from renowned chef Billy Gallagher. Guests will be able to sip sundowners at the Sky Bar while enjoying the city skyline and views of the golf course’s third hole. The spa also promises to be pretty impressive and will offer a range of treatments and facilities, such as a relaxation area. The interior design of this R870-million hotel is based on influences found at the world’s fine hotels including the Bulgari in London, the Peninsula in Hong Kong and the Armani Hotel in Milan, according to Stephen Pellerade, CEO of Pellerade, the company heading up the design of the hotel’s interior.
For business travellers, there will also be a business centre with all the hi-tech bells and whistles you can think of. Private boardrooms will be available for meetings and the venue promises to be a popular conferencing destination.
Although it only opens in December 2017, the hotel has already roped in an honour. Vice President: Membership at The Leading Hotels of the World, Deniz Omurgonulsen, has welcomed the Houghton Hotel to its portfolio. “The project truly is unique with its comprehensive array of facilities, its enviable park-life setting in Johannesburg’s affluent green belt overlooking a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course and with its promixity to upscale shopping and prime business concerns, which make it especially attractive to sophisticated travellers.”
