Foodie fans will be thrilled to know that Jamie’s Italian restaurant will open later this year in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg.
The Jamie’s Italian brand was created by a match made in culinary heaven – Chef Gennaro Contaldo and celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Italy – I love the passion of its people, the simplicity of their cooking, the incredible produce and the big flavours. I never fail to get excited about it”, says Oliver. “There’s nothing Italians love more than cooking an incredible meal and sitting down with the whole family to enjoy it, no matter how rich or poor they may be. And that’s what we’re all about – making good food accessible and affordable to everyone.”
That trademark Jamie Oliver enthusiasm is very present when he talks about opening up in Jozi. “I can’t tell you how excited I am to be bringing Jamie’s Italian to South Africa. Johannesburg is an incredible city with an established food scene so to be opening a restaurant here is a huge honour for me,” says Oliver. “Right now we’re in the process of recruiting a brilliant new team who will become part of our ever-growing Jamie’s Italian family. When we open the doors, we’ll be serving beautiful, simple, great-value Italian food, all made with the very best quality ingredients we can get our hands on.”
The executive directors from Whisky Creek Brands, who are bringing Jamie’s Italian to South Africa – Stephen Gersowsky, Symeon Yiallouris and Justin Divaris – are thrilled with the opportunity. “Being awarded the Jamie’s Italian franchise is such a privilege,” says Whisky Brands CEO Stephen Gersowsky: “Our aim is to be the most popular restaurant in town – so great for families and a pit-stop for shoppers or friends who want to share a quick bowl of pasta after work, as well as the go-to destination for special occasions.”
