Harties cableway open for business after fire

Your weekend adventures are back in full swing as you now can enjoy using the Harties Cableway in Hartbeespoort again, after a fire broke out earlier this year.

A ravaging storm on 9 January resulted in lightning striking the Look Out Bar, which subsequently burnt down. The cableway remained intact as the team had decided earlier to close for the day because of the oncoming storm. Luckily, no one was injured and there was no damage to the cableway due to this decision. Local fire fighters, management, on-site security and neighbours were quick to respond to the emergency and the fire was contained to the deck of the bar, preventing further damage to the area.

The General Manager of the cableway, Iain Gunn, says that they “are very pleased to confirm that out of the five venues available for guests, only one has sustained damage and on Sunday alone we had over 700 guests travelling safely on our cableway”.

It’s business as usual for the Harties Cableway, which is known for offering amazing panoramic views of the Hartbeespoort Dam and the Magaliesberg mountain range, which was awarded the Unesco title of “oldest visible mountains in the world” as well as the status of a protected biosphere last year. Other activities include a picnic on top of the mountain – picnic basket bookings can be made through Bugatti’s restaurant’s banqueting manager. The Kidzone also offers something for the children – watch them play on the jungle gym as you enjoy your picnic.

The 1km Dassie Loop walkway is another a great way to explore and learn about the area. You’ll walk past signs on the way which explain places of interest in the area. The Look Out Bar is currently undergoing renovations and a roof-wetting ceremony will take place as soon as it’s ready.
