As die hard fans of the HBO’s Game of Thrones series patiently wait for season 8 to hit their screens in 2019, news of a spin-off series is doing the rounds. The iconic series based on a fantasy novel by American author George R. R. Martin is not only known for its intricately plotted storyline that’s kept viewers hooked for years, but also for the almost whimsical world locations that serve as backdrops to its unforgettable scenes.
In fact, the series’ set locations have inspired themed travel itineraries, allowing followers to explore the destinations in which The Seven Kingdoms of the story are shot. These include Morocco, Croatia, Iceland, Malta, and Scotland.

The latter, is home to one of the major islands in the Inner Hebrides known as the Isle of Skye, which is said to be the filming location of the spin-off series which is set 10 000 years before the current GoT era. While there is still much speculation around the offshoot series, including whether or not it will be called The Long Night, what’s certain is the picturesque natural beauty the region offers with rugged terrain dotted with medieval castles and fishing villages.
A bridge connects the island to the northwest coast of Scotland, while the island itself boasts an array of outdoor tourist activities through which to explore its natural bounty such as water sports, hiking and even pony riding.
