Folk music artist hailing from Mount Edgecombe in Durban, Majozi, has been announced as the new Premier Hotel & Resorts Brand Ambassador 2017, a partnership that can only be as remarkable as it sounds.
“Everything about Majozi speaks to Premier Hotels & Resorts’ ethos. Our joint passion for our beautiful country, coupled with his positive attitude, perseverance to excel and strong values make him the perfect brand ambassador for the group,” says Alan Campbell, our Brand & Marketing Manager.
Majozi has graced music stages with local musical giants such as Matthew Mole and Gangs of Ballet, as well as international artists Yoav and The Lumineers, performed at the likes of Oppikoppi Music Festival, White Mountain Festival, Durban Botanical Gardens and on the main stage at the Mr Price Pro Concert. Majozi adds that taking his career one step further through a collaboration with Premier Hotels & Resorts is a dream come true.
“I am humbled to be able to join the team on their journey to show South Africa – and the world – all that we have to offer,” Majozi shared.
His first EP, Marvelous Light, made it to No.9 overall on the South African iTunes chart and No.1 in the singer/songwriter category, and was followed by his second EP, Mountains.
We had the privilege of picking his brain on his passion for the country, travel and music.
In which city or province are you looking to spend your time with the Premier Hotel & Resorts partnership?
I spend a large portion of my time in Johannesburg, so most definitely there.
Does travel influence your music and if so, how?
Yes, always. I’m heavily influenced by the things I see around me, especially if they are unfamiliar. When you travel you are constantly learning new things about life and people, and sometimes I like to write about what I’ve learnt.
Your passion for the country and that of Premier Hotel & Resorts make your partnership the perfect match – what do you love most about what SA has to offer travellers, be it locals or those from abroad?
SA’s natural beauty is second to none. There are so many well known and hidden gems around the country that everyone can appreciate, plus we have the best weather. The people in SA are really friendly as well. We pretty much have everything.
When you’re not making music or rocking crowds, where do you go to relax?
I’m luckily enough to have a really relaxing environment where I live in Cape Town so I don’t have to go far.
What’s your favourite hidden gem, be it from your hometown or anywhere else?
Christmas Bay, in KZN is pretty amazing. There are some awesome natural rock pools around if you’re willing to venture out a little.
What can we expect with your music in the near future?
Hoping to do many big things towards the end of the year, that know one has really seen. So keep your eyes peeled. I’ve been very fortunate to have awesome fans supporting me for awhile now, and I really want to do the best I can.
