Located in the quiet Stellenbosch suburb of Paradyskloof, Makaron Restaurant at Majeka House & Spa is a gourmet haven.
Originally a family home and guesthouse, the property has evolved into a notable winelands boutique hotel with expansive gastronomic offerings.
“The growth of Majeka House has been a complete evolution,” says Karine Dequeker, who owns and runs the hotel with husband Lloyd van der Merwe. “With elegance and simplicity, the concept has always been to retain the feeling of Majeka as a home. Since opening in 2008 the property has grown with our clientele, and we now have a wonderful mix of international travellers and local guests.”
With ‘kitchen cowboy’ Peter Goffe-Wood as a consultant chef, and Head Chef Lucas Carstens, Makaron’s updated menu is thoughtful, adding twists to classic favourites.
“Approachable, inventive and honest” is how Dequeker describes the new-look offering at Makaron. “It’s still refined cooking, but without too much fussing with ingredients,” explains Carstens. “We try to keep the dishes interesting, and there will always be something special on the menu.”
Included in the new selection is a modern take on classic Sunday roasts, which change weekly. From a whole roast rib-eye to a slow-cooked shoulder of lamb, the roasts promise to keep visitors coming back for more. Generous portions are served with a range of three delicious side dishes. A vegetarian option is also available.
The roast is served every Sunday between 12 and 3pm and is priced at R185 per person and R110 for kids under 12. Starters and desserts are also available at an additional cost.
