Think of “Dubai”, and you think of luxury shopping, a world-class nightlife, artificial islands and futuristic architecture that’ll make you feel like you were propelled into the year 2050. It is however jam-packed with things to see and experience during the festive season.
Here’s what you can look forward to doing when there over the holidays:
As early as 2 December, Dubai is well on its way to celebrating the festive season. The UAE begins its National Day celebrations with a parade each year that sees Dubai residents of diverse nationalities come together. Petrol heads also get to experience the Dubai Police’s fleet of supercars joining in the procession in Downtown Dubai.
160 trees and 20 000 Christmas lights illuminate the Christmas Market at the iconic Souk Madinat Jumeirah. Festive ornaments are a feast for the eyes, while delicious treats are there for the tasting, making the Christmas market the perfect hotspot to enjoy the year-end festivities as Christmas Day draws near.
Get a dose of a white Christmas at the Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates with a Winter Wonderland complete with Santa’s Grotto and workshop. You’ll see the whole works, complete with sledge hills and snow balls!
From 6 to 10 December, the newly opened Dubai Opera will showcase the world famous The Nutcracker – staged on ice. A cast of World, European and National Championship level skaters will bring the epic tale to life on ice against Tchaikovsky’s glorious score.
Fireworks at the Burj Khalifa
As if the famous Burj Khalifa is not epic enough in itself as one of the world’s most iconic structures and the world’s tallest building, it will usher in a new year with a vertical fireworks display. Other Dubai landmarks such as the Burj Al Arab and Atlantis the Palm will also come alive on the eve of the new year.
For a more still and quiet Christmas or New Year’s Eve, a night under the majestic Dubai desert skies is all one can ask for. Escape the hustle and bustle of the city with a desert party, where you can also still enjoy a vantage point view of the fireworks.
From Coldplay to Martin Garrix to David Guetta, Dubai has hosted a slew of musical powerhouses on New Year’s Eve. Each year, music lovers in Dubai can witness musical greats from the world. While this year’s line-up is yet to be confirmed, visitors can expect a musical experience equally as impressive as previous ones. Visit visitdubai.com to track the latest line-up.
Theme Parks and Gardens
New attractions such as Motiongate Dubai, Bollywood Parks and Legoland Dubai should go on any to-do list this festive season while in Dubai, along with the renowned Global Village and Dubai Miracle Gardens, for fun cultural experiences in nature.
Whether you’re a luxury or budget traveller, Dubai is not Dubai without its world-class restaurants and its vibrant F&B scene. Enjoy your sunny December days and cool nights with glittering skylines and festive al fresco brunches or dinners at the city’s leading culinary hotspots.
