Santa is coming to De Hoop Nature Reserve this July. The exquisite reserve along the Garden Route is a great family getaway – with a private lodge, self-catering cottages and camping facilities.
There’s a special Christmas weekend on offer from 10 to 12 July. It all starts off with a Breakfast Eco Boat cruise, followed by a Kiddie’s Nature Quest and, later, Night Adventurer activities.
On the Saturday morning, families can head off for a guided bird walk, followed by a chocolate-making workshop with Richard von Gesau (a well-known chocolatier). This is followed by a visit from Santa at 3pm (around time for high tea), followed by a cabaret and Christmas dinner with all the trimmings in the cosy Fig Tree restaurant.
One of the highlights is the cabaret performed by Emile Minnie, whose repertoire includes French love songs and, in this instance, Christmas carols.
De Hoop offers the ultimate nature-inspired getaway for the whole family, and in this case with the added bonus of being able to celebrate the festive season six months earlier than usual.
