Named the world’s best food city at the Condé Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards 2015/16, Cape Town officially has its own signature cocktail to honour its role as a travel hotspot.

Vítězslav Cirok – one of the top six bartenders chosen at the World Class Bartender of the Year Competition in 2015 – developed the cocktail after a visit to the Mother City. Cirok’s journey began at the renowned One&Only Cape Town, where Chef Reuben Riffel introduced him to local flavours, including lemon geranium – a favourite that Riffel used in a sauce for his braaied fish.

“It was wonderful to be back in Cape Town, a city that truly embodies cosmopolitan creativity and culinary excellence. My mission was to create a cocktail that brings this amazing city and continent to life,” said Cirok. “I used Ketel One vodka as a base and chose to infuse and combine it with ingredients which emanated from the journey I shared with the city and the people I met.”

Elements that inspired Cirok’s mixology masterpiece included the white beach at Camps Bay, which he translated to coconut water and Rose Street, which inspired him to add rosewater to the mix. After a visit to a local spice shop, Cirok was inspired by the scents of fresh ginger and rooibos tea. One&Only Head Sommelier Luvo Ntezo introducing him to a local sparkling wine also had an influence on the cocktail.

The result of these Cape-inspired elements is the One&Only Cape Town Cocktail – an  installation in the #DestinationsDistilled series – which is presented on grey stone to represent Table Mountain.
