Cape Town’s upcoming foodie hotspot

The Shortmarket Club promises a fantastic culinary experience for patrons who visit from its opening date in June. And with Luke Dale-Roberts heading the enterprise, it’s sure to make waves in the South African food industry.

Dale-Roberts has partnered with his wife, Sandalene, his top chef, Wesley Randles, and manager Simon Widdison in opening the restaurant just off the iconic Bree Street.

Although Dale-Roberts’ focus remains on The Test Kitchen and The Pot Luck Club in Woodstock, he will play a supporting role in this exciting new venture.

“I’m extremely excited about what this will bring to the City Bowl,” he says. “The restaurant is unique in its design and it’s a place to relax and really lap up the feeling of luxury that surrounds you – and the delicious food, of course!”

Randles will be heading the kitchen, bringing years of experience from working with Dale-Roberts to the table. The restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, adding contemporary twists to classic favourites. The open kitchen will also feature a braai section.

“We’ll start you off with perfect West Coast oysters, with Asian accompaniments, or beef carpaccio with a miso-cured egg yolk,” he says. “It’s the type of place where we want people to linger, have fun; where lunch turns into drinks at the bar, or an after-work get-together turns into a languid dinner.”
