On the morning of Thursday, 17 November, a fire on Devil’s Peak was reported to the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services. While the cause is unclear, several hectares have been engulfed by the flames, which are moving upwards.

Situated behind Cape Town and adjacent to Table Mountain, Devil’s Peak is popular for its views, hiking trails and climbing opportunities. The fire has led to the closure of the incoming lane of De Waal Drive, and motorists are advised to exercise caution.
Theo Layne, City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson said they were notified at around 6.30am. The blaze is being fought by the team and will be monitored closely.
