For the 10th consecutive year, the city of Cape Town has been named the best city for business tourism events by the International Congress and Convention Associated, an international body founded by travel agents in 1963 to facilitate the exchange of international congresses and conventions information.
Cape Town surpassed destinations such as Johannesburg, Marrakech and Nairobi according to Cape Business News in the latest 2017 country and city rankings by number of meetings. The Mother City now sits on the list of the Top 40 destinations having jumped up 15 spots.
As reported by Cape Town Etc, Wesgro – under which the Western Cape Convention Bureau is a strategic division – CEO Tim Harris highlighted the importance the various relevant stakeholders and partners needed to play to retain the top position in a highly competitive business and events environment.
The organisation represents 1 100 member companies and organisations from close to 100 top destination countries who are world leading suppliers in handling, transporting and accommodating international meetings and events.
According the ICCA, members and meeting planners utilise the ICC network to source information on “can rely on the ICCA network to find solutions for all their event objectives: venue selection; technical advice; assistance with delegate transportation; full convention planning or ad hoc services”.
“Cape Town has year-on-year been confirmed as the events capital of Africa and the latest rankings are further proof that our efforts to become the business events capital on the continent are paying off,” said former Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille.
