Auberge Daniella

Auberge Daniella

When travelling, comfortable, intimate accommodation is the perfect end to a long day. One establishment that makes my list is Auberge Daniella in Franschhoek, Western Cape, which offers a personalised, boutique B&B environment.

Two of the three suites – Huguenot and La Cotte – are situated in a restored Victorian home. Lavender Cottage is located across from the pool and offers a little more privacy. Each is en-suite, with a fully-equipped kitchen and all the luxury amenities you’d expect from a five-star establishment, such as goose-down duvets, Egyptian cotton linen, heated towel rails, pretty toiletries and a large dining/lounge area with plasma TVs, satellite television and free wifi. The garden is safely enclosed with a pool and a deck on which you can enjoy sundowners or your morning coffee.

I especially love the fact that everything’s within walking distance. We enjoyed a beautiful meal at Ryan’s Kitchen across the road and strolled the streets for some exercise the next morning.

Nice touch: The rooms are stocked with good coffee, biscuits and fruit for a morning lie-in and the service is exceptional.

Rates: La Cotte and Huguenot Suites – from R2 000 and Lavender Cottage – from R1 800 (all per night, sharing).

In and around Franschhoek:

There are a number of fun things to do in and around Franschhoek, including taking a hike up the old Cat se Pad hiking trail; mountain biking or horse riding in the scenic Franschhoek Valley; visiting any of the very fine wine estates in the area; taking a unique journey on the Franschhoek Wine Tram; enjoying a helicopter flip over the gorgeous valley; sipping wine (bought from a local estate) at the top of the Franschhoek Pass as you watch the sun go down; taking a tour of Huguenot Fine Chocolates, or enjoying a picnic lunch at Boschendal, Solms-Delta or Warwick wine estates… and so much more!

The Franschhoek tourism office is very well organised and happy to assist with tours and information.
