Airbnb has mined its booking data from the first half of the coming year to unearth 2018’s travel trends. The forecast covers the top 10 popular cities to explore, the kinds of homes guests enjoy and popular experiences growing in demand.
When it comes to the world’s top 10 popular cities, Paris, Osaka and Tokyo occupy the top three spots, followed by New York, London, Rome, Orlando, Miami, Sydney and Lisbon.

The report reveals that “laid-back beach towns, mountain retreats and mid-sized cities” are increasing in popularity, and largely encompass the trending destinations for the new year ahead. Gangneung, South Korea, leads the pack, with bookings up over 2 175%.
“Rustic homes and non-traditional digs” are becoming the accommodation of choice for guests, as bookings for nature lodges grew by 700% and RVs by 133%.
The top five most popular experiences spanned “local flavours, rhythms and wildlife” in destinations such as Lisbon, London, New York and Los Angeles.
